My name is Alyce Beard, and like most Australians I love my pets. Australia has one of the highest pet ownership rates in the world so I know I am not alone in declaring my love openly to the entire world.
I have just finished a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Journalism and Communications as well as History and Culture. At university as well as at school I developed a love of writing and telling stories, anyone who knows me will be able to tell you I know how to talk...alot. My love of animals often dominated my studies with news stories on palm oil, an animal rescue group called Soi Dog Foundation in Thailand and a feature story about a Bat sanctuary. Animals also featured in my history projects including 'the history of the brute creation,' and a piece on the history of my local pet rescue group the Animal Welfare League of Queensland (AWLQ). I also undertook a communications Internship at the AWLQ.
The love of my life is a little fox terrier cross staffy called Aurora (yes, she shares a name with Sleeping Beauty). She means the world to me and I could not imagine my life without her. She is a little bundle of joy and has brought so much happiness into this world. Aurora is a rescue dog from a group called Best Friends Rescue, she was rescued from a pound in NSW where she was about to get euthanized. She spent 4 months at her foster careers house waiting for someone to adopt her and then we came along and she instantly warmed up our lives.
Recently we also became foster careers for Animal Rescue Queensland and welcomed into our homes a cattle dog we named Dex. He was extremely well behaved from the get go and is an excellent smoocher and cuddle buddy. As first time foster careers we were unsure what to expect but within hours of his arrival (possibly even minutes) we decided he was never going to leave, and he too as joined the wolf pack we call family.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog posts and I hope to spread the word of the unconditional love an animal can bring to the world and all the stories, adventures and troubles we come across in our journey we call life.
Saving one dog won't change the world but the world will sure change for that one dog.
